A native island breed
Croatia’s national breed programme describes the Pag sheep as smaller than other island breeds, usually white, with adult ewes weighing about 35–45 kg. It traces the breed to long-term development of island pramenka sheep with Negretti, Bergamo and Gentile di Puglia influence.

Milk for Paški sir
The programme gives an average lactation of about 180 days and a broad production range of 120–250 litres, figures that describe the breed rather than a promise for every ewe or farm. Milk production for cheese is the breed’s principal production objective.
